iPhone 11 Display Types — Key Differences
| Model | Display Type | Dead Pixel Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 11 | Liquid Retina LCD (6.1") | Dead pixel shows as black dot; backlight bleed possible at edges |
| iPhone 11 Pro | Super Retina XDR OLED (5.8") | OLED — stuck sub-pixels appear bright on black; dead pixels are black on all colours |
| iPhone 11 Pro Max | Super Retina XDR OLED (6.5") | Same as Pro; larger panel, same display tech |
iPhone 11 Dead Pixel — LCD vs OLED Testing
The iPhone 11 and 11 Pro use different display technologies, which changes how dead pixels appear. The standard iPhone 11 uses Liquid Retina LCD — a dead pixel appears as a permanently black dot on all colours. The 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max use OLED (Super Retina XDR) — on these models, a stuck sub-pixel appears as a bright coloured dot on a black background, while a true dead pixel stays black.
The iPhone dead pixel test works for all three models. On the LCD iPhone 11, also check for backlight bleed — uneven brightness near the edges, which is a different issue from dead pixels.
Repair Cost Without Warranty
All iPhone X through 11 models are well outside their standard warranty. Screen repair costs vary:
- iPhone X / XS / XS Max: $150–$280 (Apple or third-party)
- iPhone XR: $130–$200
- iPhone 11: $130–$200
- iPhone 11 Pro / Pro Max: $180–$280
For models this old, third-party repair or trade-in often makes more economic sense than an Apple repair.
